About this alpaca
Phantom is a blue-black suri male recently imported from the US.
While this male did not meet our high standards for fleece density, he was included in our shipment from the US because of his amazingly greasy, heavy fleece. Even the pieces on his 4th fleece are greasy and have a real weight, without being coarse. As many dark animals in Australia have a lighter fleece and lack the grease and solidity of lock seen in the whites, we believe this male will be a welcome addition the the black genetic base in Australia.
It also helped that Phantom’s sire, Cantano of Peru, is a high performing mahogany male with numerous champion offspring and a high proportion of sons becoming herdsires and themselves producing champions.
Although neither of his parents are black, Phantom has a blue-black fleece. He also has a small white spot on his nose.
Phantom’s cria on the ground confirmed our suspicions. Of three ET progeny to a medium grey female, Phantom produced two dark grey and one solid black cria, all displaying incredible greasy and lustrous fleece. He also passes on his leg coverage, resulting in very typey cria.
